Log House Rustic Railing
A dramatic log home was built on speculation and finished quickly by the builder with an inexpensive wood deck railing system installed on 65 feet of interior stairs and balconies in the soaring great room.
The clients who bought it hoped for a new ornamental iron railing that would accommodate their budget and and also express qualities of hand-forged craftsmanship complementary to its hewn log construction.
A retrofit design solution anchored the new steel railing into the existing wood curb. Panels of forged and welded branches were interspersed among balusters installed with an irregular twist to avoid a rigid, repetitive appearance. A collaborating carpenter provided a hewn wood hand railing to match the log structure.
