Knotted Table

Hot worked mild steel
with inset 1/4" glass top
18 " x 26 " x 21 " (H x W x D)

The Knotted Table design is based on a skill building exercise often given to apprentice artist-blacksmiths. It requires expert control to intertwine four steel bars into a tight symmetrical “knot.” I modified and adapted this exercise to form the corners and edges of table frames to support inset glass tops.
I’ve been refining this design for several years, and I accept commissions to reproduce it in specific shapes, sizes and proportions. In addition to squares and rectangles, it has been made in round, oval and octagonal shapes and it has been proportioned to match other furnishings. It is also available in a variety of finishes.
Interior design professionals admire the Knotted Table because it expresses craftsmanship equally well in both traditional and contemporary settings. Artist-blacksmiths and furniture makers appreciate subtleties of the inset top design and the skill and detail necessary to realize them.
